"I will dance with Cinderella..."

Ok...do you know this song? Paul and I have apparently been in a hole...and we just heard this song! Read the lyrics or go listen to it! Then come back to the end of the blog...

Verse 1:
She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders
It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Verse 2:
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of her dress
She says, "Dad the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She will be gone

Verse 3:
But she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says, "Dad the wedding's still six months away but I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

So the other night we were driving home from eating out and the kids were being pretty quiet so I turned the radio on and this song was on...I had heard the whole thing just the day before. I turned it up and told Paul, "You have to listen to this song." When it was over, I told him that I thought that this song was the "Butterfly Kisses" for Abby's generation. When I said this Paul was silent...I looked at him and he was crying! I, of course, immediately asked him what was wrong, to which he promptly replied, "nothing." He then went on to explain that the song affected him much more than he anticipated. It took him a long time to recover from the emotions the song brought up...mostly because Abby is at the age, of the first verse...playing princess and she is always wanting to "do daddy's hair". So I think the reality of her growing up just hit him at once and the song only added to the emotion. He likes the song so much he had me download it onto his myspace. Anyway, if you haven't heard the song, you should, if you have then maybe you know what I'm talking about!

I have never heard that song. Who sings it?

I'll have to find it and play it for my husband too. What beautiful words!

Thanks for sharing it!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. I play it over and over in the car... When I first heard it, it reminded me of standing on my daddy's feet while we danced and it also made me think of Paul and Abby's first roses... makes me cry everytime!

Play with daddy's (Paul) hair... what hair??? Just kidding.

Love you guys, Georgia

You need to read the story behind this song. Its not about her growing up in a sense. This song is mainly directed to one of his daughters.
His son ran over her while she was laying in the driveway watching the stars.
He and his wife were watching on the front porch as it was happening.
this is a very sad story.
read the whole thing and you seem to grasp it more and get a better feel for it.
I cry every time I hear this song
I have a baby sister.
and i couldnt fathom running her over in my car
